Today I have the privilege of unveiling a new project called Cowboy Sadness, an instrumental collaboration between myself and two dear friends— David Moore (Bing & Ruth), and Nicholas Principe (Port St. Willow).
Our debut album, ‘Selected Jambient Works Vol. 1’ will be available digitally and on limited-edition gold metallic cassette January 19th, 2024.
You can pre-order either format exclusively on Bandcamp.
And you can listen to two songs from the album, “First Rodeo” + “Second Rodeo”.
And watch a visualizer for “Second Rodeo”:
Though I call this project “new”, Cowboy Sadness has actually been in existence for over 10 years. It began as our regularly-occurring ambient-jam club in Brooklyn— the three of us would get together every few months, set up some gear, and improvise for hours on end, capturing everything on a simple handheld recorder.
Over the course of several years, the band evolved into something more meaningful and intentional— a release valve for making a kind of music free of expectations and commercial pressure. We began to properly record our sessions across three locations in Upstate New York, eventually amassing over 20 hours of music.
We then set to work meticulously editing our recordings into a cohesive statement; one that still captured the space, momentum and spirit of the original sessions, but with the thoughtful pacing and structure of traditional songwriting.
The result is an hour of music that captures the feeling of the open desert without relying on its usual stylistic signatures, an album that I am excited to finally be bringing out into the world with two of my favorite musicians and people, and letting the rest of you into our secret jambient club.

Oh man, Port St. Willow still sticks within my soul with Holiday. Love to hear this. Hell yeah.
So thrilled for the unveiling of this project! The visuals and audio create a biosphere that feels so familiar to me, a place where my mind likes to dream. Congratulations to you three.
